Know Your Region: Train-the-Trainers Workshop

Training Overview
This workshop is designed to help economic and community development practitioners prepare and give presentations or workshops on implementing regional strategies and approaches to economic development using the Know Your Region curriculum. This curriculum was developed at Western Carolina University with support from the Economic Development Administration.
The goals are threefold:
- to disseminate information about regional planning to as many planning districts, local officials, and economic development professionals
- to integration content on regional approaches to economic development planning and development into existing training programs
- to develop a network of practitioners and trainers to support this project and to share additional innovative resources that can support efforts to create vibrant regional economies and strong local communities.
This train-the-trainers workshop is designed for experienced community and economic development practitioners, so they can offer workshops and presentations using the curriculum successfully developed at Western Carolina University with support from the Economic Development Administration.
Specific objectives for the training include:
- Clarify expectations for trainers
- Provide an overview of the national training project: goals and expectations
- Participate in walk through of the curriculum and related activities
- Discussion and identification of supporting resources
- Discussion on evaluation activities
- Provide feedback on the train-the trainer program with suggestions for improvement
- Begin development of calendar of training activities and trainer conference calls/CoP activities
